Book NowAbout UCHILOUNGE / O'Uchi
This moody Clarence Street bolt-hole pulls off a rare Sydney feat: an almost entirely gluten-free Japanese izakaya menu that compromises on nothing. Diners line up for crunchy karaage chicken, savory okonomiyaki, and unconventional noodle bowls that steer well clear of standard tonkotsu—think slow-cooked beef rib on the bone in rich beef broth or smoky duck sprinkled with matcha salt. With warm low lighting, counter seating, and quick midday bento boxes, it delivers the compact, unhurried ease of a quiet back-alley Tokyo den.
- Extensive Coeliac-Friendly Lineup: Nearly the full izakaya menu caters to coeliacs, featuring gluten-free karaage chicken, okonomiyaki, and noodle swaps for ramen.
- Distinctive Broths & Cuts: Bypasses classic pork tonkotsu for simmered beef-rib broth, smoked duck, and a creamy vegan tan tan base.
- Tokyo Den Vibe & Express Lunches: Counter seating, ambient lighting, and swift bento box sets balance bustling weekday CBD lunches with intimate evening dining.

The Mog Champ Hojicha Smoked Duck
The standout for me was definitely the hojicha smoked duck paired with scallion oil and matcha salt. Such a unique flavour combination and genuinely unlike anything I’ve had before.
Jackie Wu Vegan Tan Tan Ramen
The Vegan Tan Tan Ramen is the one to order. It’s hands down the best ramen I’ve ever had—and I’ve had a lot. The broth is incredibly creamy and rich, and the vegetables perfectly complement the flavors.

Okonomiyaki
The dish that really stood out however was the Okonomiyaki. The mayo gave it a nice kick, without overpowering it, balancing nicely with the subtle saltiness of the edamame. The mushrooms were a nice touch adding a meaty texture to the dish.
em singh Grilled Miso Eggplant
I went for the grilled miso eggplant bento box that came with a miso soup, silky smooth tofu, salmon sashimi, a couple of edamame beans and slice of fruit and yes, of course rice. The flavors are spot on
Nanita Sashimi Platter
The sashimi platter was also incredibly fresh, especially the tuna
Jackie Wu Matcha Warabimochi Parfait
We ended the night with the matcha warabimochi parfait and it was honestly so good I would come back just for that dessert alone.
