Tucked behind the courts at a Marrickville tennis club, Casa do Benfica trades in garlic, cold beer, and unvarnished tasca soul. Inside the retro clubhouse, long tables fill quickly—crowded with platters of grilled seafood in olive oil and beef skewers suspended directly over the table. Regulars build their orders around bowls of seafood rice and Carne de Porco à Alentejana, then slip up to the counter bar for a cold Super Bock or Vinho Verde as live guitar takes the corner stage.
- Heaped Seafood Platters: Generously portioned platters arrive loaded with fresh catch and steeped in garlicky olive oil, easily feeding three or more.
- Hanging Table Skewers: Tender chunks of beef arrive at the table hanging directly from suspended metal skewers.
- Nostalgic Clubhouse Setting: Housed inside the community tennis club with an authentic walk-up bar pouring cold Super Bock, Sagres, and Portuguese wines.

Before you head over
Essential advice on bookings, ordering sizes, and game-day parking—lock in your table early for a relaxed clubhouse feast.
Book Ahead for Weekends and Settle In
Bookings are essential for weekend dining, and tables fill up fast. The kitchen works at a relaxed, deliberate pace during peak rushes, so plan ahead and arrive early to settle into the clubhouse rhythm.
Scale Your Orders for Generous Portions
Portions are notoriously massive. A grilled seafood platter easily feeds three people, and groups do best splitting one entrée and one main between two to leave room for takeaway caramel pudim.
Check Oval Matchdays and Head to the Bar
Street parking gets tight whenever games are scheduled next door at Henson Oval. Head inside through the tennis centre, where you can order imported Portuguese beers and wines directly from the walk-up bar counter.
