Book NowAbout Ayam Bakar 7 Saudara
Run by Mr. Ridwan and Bu Susan on Penshurst’s strip, this dining room captures the easy warmth of a neighborhood warung—flame grill running continuously and newcomers greeted like kin. Regulars point first-timers straight to the signature ayam bakar, turned over fire with an eleven-year technique that chars the marinade right to the bone. Pair the chicken with tamarind sayur asem or coconut lontong sayur, though the veteran move is letting the hosts steer the order. Feasts typically conclude with an unprompted bowl of iced jelly or hot jasmine tea.
- Signature flame-grilled chicken: Prepared with a consistent 11-year grilling method, the namesake ayam bakar delivers a smoky, charred crust and deep marinade penetration over flame.
- Owner-guided hospitality: Owners Mr. Ridwan and Bu Susan steer diners through regional staples with personal recommendations that take the guesswork out of the menu.
- Complimentary dessert rituals: Meals routinely conclude with unprompted parting gifts from the hosts, ranging from iced sweet jelly to pots of hot jasmine tea.
- Nostalgic home-style staples: Long-time patrons rely on nostalgic recipes like tamarind sayur asem and Betawi-style lontong sayur for an uncompromising taste of home.

Masterful Flame-Grilled Ayam Bakar
Marinated with depth and grilled over open flame using an 11-year Indonesian technique, the signature chicken delivers an unmistakable balance of smoky char, tender meat, and penetrating spice.
The marinade is the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and smoky, and the meat is incredibly tender and packed with flavor all the way to the bone.
Stella Alexia Uncompromised Regional Heritage Dishes
From Betawi-style lontong sayur to tangy sayur asem, recipes remain uncompromised and deeply rooted in Indonesian regional tradition rather than adapted fusion.
Their lontong is Betawi style not Medan style so less milky (coconut).

It was incredibly comforting and nostalgic.

Signature home-style Indonesian specialties praised by diners.
Ayam Bakar
The grilled chicken (ayam bakar) was incredible - perfectly charred on the outside, juicy and packed with flavour on the inside.
David Mont Lontong Sayur
Starting with the food, the main star of the show for me was the Lontong sayur. It was one of the best versions I've ever had compared to other restaurants.
dave bryant lim Sayur Asem
My other favourite is their Sayur Asem. It tastes exactly like my mum’s cooking.
Charista Tan Gado-Gado
And also their gado gado is also very yummy because of the special peanut sauce.

Other favorites
Beyond the signature flame-grilled chicken, round out your table with crisp sides, fragrant teas, and traditional post-meal sweets.
Bakso Goreng Ayam
especially the bakso goreng ayam (fried chicken meatballs) and gado-gado (blanched vegetables with peanut sauce). Both left a great impression on me and tasted almost identical to what you'd find in Indonesia itself (something that's actually quite rare to find).
dave bryant lim Iced Jelly Dessert
We also got an iced jelly dessert which is really rare to find in other Indonesian restaurants.
Jennifer Javanese Jasmine Tea
The owners also offered complimentary tea, a very fragrant blend that I believe is traditional Javanese Jasmine (Melati) tea.
Gianfelix Goenawan Tahu Telor
Also ordered Tahu telor which was a true textural delight, the fluffy strands of fried egg enveloped tofu juxtaposed against some cucumber and bean sprouts. Truly excellent.
