Book NowAbout Maydanoz Restaurant Bar
Maydanoz delivers an Aegean-inspired escape right in the Sydney CBD, leaning into vegetable- and seafood-led meze rather than heavy skewers. Dim pendant lighting and earthy terracotta set an intimate meyhane rhythm as the streets outside fade away. Table after table tracks the çılbır—poached quail eggs resting on garlicky labneh with a prickle of Marash pepper—paired with warm simit pulled apart for dipping. The halloumi arrives smoking directly over tabletop charcoal, fragrant with rosemary honey and sesame. From tender braised octopus lifted by preserved lemon to spiced bulgur beef tartare and sweet kunefe, every course moves smoothly, backed by floor staff who keep water glasses full and make group tables feel like private dinners.
- Modern Turkish Meze: Standout plates include quail egg çılbır, tarama dip with warm simit, and beef tartare with spiced bulgur and pomegranate molasses.
- Tableside Smoking Haloumi: Slices of grilled haloumi arrive directly at the table over hot smoking coals, drizzled with rosemary honey and sesame.
- Aegean-Inspired Ambience: Terracotta accents, dim pendant lighting, and candlelit corners offer a tranquil escape near Wynyard station.

The slow-cooked lamb was incredibly tender, literally falling apart, and tasted amazing.
Shayal Kumar Octopus
The Octopus with preserved lemon dressing, pickles, and Marash pepper was flawless. Tender throughout — none of the rubbery resistance that haunts lesser kitchens — with the preserved lemon providing a brightness that lifted every element on the plate. This is the dish you come back for.

The Kingfish collar steaks were perfectly seasoned and excellent cuts of fish and our dishes worked out perfectly for sharing between two of us.

The Chilbir on toast — soft poached quail eggs perched on pillowy toast with garlicky labne and a scattering of Marash pepper — arrived first and set the tone immediately. Delicate, beautifully balanced, and just spiced enough to announce that the kitchen knows what it's doing.
