Book NowAbout Mappen
Slip into a George Street arcade across from Pepper Lunch for cheap, steaming noodle bowls and zero fuss. The routine runs like a Tokyo shokudo: grab a plastic tray, order your base at the counter, then slide down the line. Sydney noodle regulars lean toward the sweet, fiery kick of the Kake Chilli Pork or warm Kake Curry udon. Along the heat-lamp counter, tongs meet crispy prawn tempura, potato croquettes, and soft-boiled eggs to dress your broth before you pay at the till. Tables inside fill up immediately—house rules mean claiming seats only after your tray is loaded—though the outdoor arcade courtyard offers plenty of overflow room beside Dera Uma and Oiden. Slurp fast while Japanese pop hums over the counter.
- Unbeatable Value: Hot noodle bowls and crunchy side dishes offer generous, budget-conscious feeds in the city center.
- Self-Serve Customization: Slide your tray past the counter to grab hot prawn tempura, croquettes, and soft-boiled eggs.
- Courtyard Dining: Grab your loaded tray and find open seating in the shared arcade courtyard outside.

Steven Toh Customizable Bowl Combinations
Dinners can be fully customized by pairing hot chewy noodles with a variety of freshly fried sides and soft-boiled eggs.
The udon is always fresh and chewy, the broth is rich, and the self-serve toppings bar lets you build your bowl just how you like it.
Jackie Wu High-Turnover Seating and Overflow Space
A dedicated order-first system and swift table turnover ensure diners can sit down inside or quickly relocate to arcade tables.
Turnover is usually quick, but if you cannot find a table, grab your tray and head outside. We have never not found a place to sit.
Arctic Moon Shared Arcade Dining Area
The arcade setting offers shared outdoor seating across neighboring spots, keeping dining manageable even when indoor seats fill up.
there’s outdoor seating shared between Mappen, Dera Uma, and Oiden, so if you buy from any of these three places you can sit anywhere in the outside area.

Signature noodle bowls ordered fresh at the counter line
Beef Udon
I ordered the beef udon and it was absolutely delicious. The broth was rich, the noodles were perfectly chewy, and the portion was really satisfying.
Sneaky foodie Kimchi Bukkake Udon
Our go-to dish is the Kimchi Bukkake Udon
Novy G Kake Chilli Pork Udon
The Kake Chilli Pork Udon was very good. The soup base was quite sweet, but the added spiciness and oil from the spicy pork mince balanced out the soup more.
RJ Food Adventure Tonkotsu Chashu Ramen
We ordered tonkotsu chashu ramen, beef udon and ebi (prawn) fry and scallop fry. All items were delicious!

Before you head over
Practical advice for navigating ordering, seating, and finding the counter inside the arcade.
Pay Before Taking a Table
The venue operates under an order-first policy where you grab a tray, select your noodles and tempura, and pay at the cashier before claiming an indoor table.
Use Shared Arcade Seating
Seating inside is limited and fills quickly during peak lunch and dinner hours. If the interior tables are full, look for shared arcade tables outside.
Enter Through George Street
The restaurant is tucked inside the Meriton arcade across from Pepper Lunch. Enter via the tower entrance on George Street rather than back alley navigations.
