About Neptune's Grotto

Slip past a heavy black steel door on Loftus Lane into a candlelit subterranean bunker anchored by a statue of Neptune. Diners gravitate here for moody date-night booths and Piedmontese-leaning plates that skip stiff-collar pretense. Start with crisp fried olives and tuna caponata before locking in the primi—silky Agnolotti del Plin or springy spinach maltagliati tossed in rich duck and Nebbiolo ragu. The staff pace the meal intuitively, stepping in to calibrate table orders before you overdo it. Round it out with a crisp cotoletta, or finish at the bar with a walnut Negroni and a slice of hazelnut chocolate tart.

  • Subterranean Atmosphere: A candlelit basement dining room centered around a classical Neptune statue, hidden away behind a Loftus Lane steel door.
  • Piedmontese Primi: Handmade regional pastas including Agnolotti del Plin and spinach maltagliati with duck and Nebbiolo ragu.
  • Intuitive Floor Hospitality: Knowledgeable staff guide course pacing and proactively edit orders to keep portion sizes balanced.

Why Diners Choose Neptune's Grotto

Discover why diners descend beneath Loftus Lane for romantic dates, handmade pasta, and attentive hospitality.

  • Subterranean Grotto Ambience

Guests enter via a heavy steel door on Loftus Lane and descend into a hidden underground sanctuary anchored by a classical statue of Neptune and glowing candlelit tables.

Opening the heavy door and descending a flight of stairs, it feels almost as though you are stepping into a secret underground bunker. However, that industrial illusion quickly fades as you emerge into a beautifully presented, dimly lit dining room anchored by a striking statue of Neptune in the center.

  • Romantic Underground Seclusion

Tucked away beneath street level, the dining room pairs soft candlelight and crisp tablecloths with cosy booths designed for milestone dates and anniversaries.

The cave setting gives the whole place such a unique, romantic vibe — definitely added to the occasion.

  • Handcrafted Regional Pastas and Mains

The kitchen prepares regional classics with precision, highlighted by rich Agnolotti del Plin, crispy Cotoletta, and fresh Tuna Caponata.

For the mains, the Agnolotti del Plin was easily one of the best pasta dishes I’ve had. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the filling was rich and comforting, and the creamy sauce was indulgent without being overwhelming.

  • Authentic Italian Flavor Execution

From delicate raw beef starters to balanced duck ragu and classic grandma pizza slices, the menu focuses on authentic Italian cooking with high-grade ingredients.

We loved how soft and springy the pasta was. It was well complemented with its sauce and the meat gave it very flavorful.

  • Genuine Hospitality That Puts Guests First

Servers actively curate table flow, offering tailored menu advice and adjusting pacing and portion sizes rather than maximizing checks.

We ordered far too much food, and instead of simply taking the order, she genuinely cared about our experience. She kindly recommended a few dishes and suggested we adjust our order, and every recommendation was spot on.

Staff monitor room acoustics and guest comfort with discretion, maintaining an inviting and unhurried setting throughout the evening.

At one point another table became quite loud, and the staff handled the situation professionally and respectfully, ensuring the restaurant remained comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.

  • Mousse al cioccolato e nocciole

We got mousse al cioccolato e nocciole for dessert as recommended by the server. It was a chocolate mousse tart with piedmont hazelnut cream, which we quite enjoyed. It tasted like Ferraro roche, and the tart was very crispy and crunch to our liking.

  • Mille foglie

To finish, the mille foglie dessert was absolutely to die for—a spectacular end to a fantastic dining experience.

  • Walnut Negroni

And that special walnut Negroni! Easily one of the best Negronis I’ve had. Highly recommend. Just wow

  • Bitter leaves and honey vinaigrette

As for Contorni, we got bitter leaves and honey vinaigrette for greens. My friend quite liked it.

Before you head over

Practical advice to make the most of your subterranean dining experience.

  • Book early and request booth seating

Tables fill up fast and reservations can be hard to secure, so book well ahead and specifically request a booth if you want a quieter, more romantic date setting rather than bar seats.

  • Pace your order with staff guidance

Portions are rich and hearty, and servers are happy to advise on course sizes so you don't over-order before finishing your pastas and mains.

  • Arrive early for a relaxed lunch

For a calmer, unhurried meal before the lively crowds arrive around 1:00 PM, aim for an early lunch seating right at opening.
