About Song Fang Khong

Song Fang Khong dishes out unapologetic Lao and Isan cooking from a modest room steps from Fairfield Station. Two decades in, the kitchen still operates with home-style directness. Locals line up for the rice-dense Lao sausage—crispy outside, punched through with lemongrass and garlic—paired with a weave basket of sticky rice. The pounded green papaya salad brings serious heat, balanced by raw cabbage and water spinach. Remember to bring cash before sitting down, then dig into plates of charred grilled pork neck and tender ox tongue.

  • Traditional Lao & Isan Fare: Long-running spot turning out traditional Isan and Lao dishes like lemongrass-spiked pork sausage, raw prawn salad, and paw paw salad.
  • Steps from Fairfield Station: Simple, home-style room situated on the quiet side of Fairfield Station, serving diners for over twenty years.
  • Cash-Only Policy: Payments are handled strictly in cash, with no card or EFTPOS facilities on site.

Before you head over

Practical advice on payment, seating, and ordering before you visit

  • Bring cash for payment

Song Fang Khong operates without card or EFTPOS terminals, so withdraw cash before your visit.

  • Arrive early or check upstairs for seating

With around 7 to 8 tables downstairs and limited seating during busy afternoon hours, arrive early or head upstairs where extra seating is available.

  • Ask for spice adjustments and sides

Even mild-ordered options like the paw paw salad can deliver intense heat, so request chili or dried prawns on the side if you prefer a gentler spice level.
