How should we handle a late international arrival and early domestic flight in Sydney?

Ask the hotel for its exact evening collection point and earliest morning transfer. A short map distance can still be awkward with bags or after a long flight.

Confirm which terminals your flights use and your airline's domestic check-in deadline. Then compare the hotel shuttle, official taxi or rideshare pickup by the full door-to-door route.
